Portfolio Overview
Sixth grade students created a portfolio of their learning and shared their portfolios in an oral defense on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The portfolios address the question:
How does living aloha, kuleana, and pono empower me to move forward and make a positive impact in my learning and community?
Rubric for Meeting Expectations
To meet expectations, students must work to the following rubric:
I can describe who I am and my kuleana with some examples;
I can explain the vision and how it guides me in my learning and choices;
I can share events from the past and explain why they are important;
I can make some connections to my future;
I can explain how I made a positive difference with some examples.
I can connect it to aloha, kuleana, or pono.
Key Concepts
The portfolio emphasizes the importance of the following Hawaiian concepts:
Aloha: The spirit of love and compassion.
Kuleana: Responsibility and the understanding of one's role in the community.
Pono: Righteousness and balance in actions and decisions.
Impact on Learning and Community
By integrating these principles, students are encouraged to reflect on how they can make a positive impact in their own lives and the lives of others in their community.
